Tabs and Screen Switching

You are halfway through writing one task when someone asks you about another. Nothing needs saving or closing: send the current screen to a tab, go look at the other task, then come back to the first one exactly where you stopped.

Anything can go into a tab: an open task, a half-filled form, a section of the menu. They all gather behind the button in the lower-right corner, and moving between them takes a single press. These are virtual tabs inside iTasks and have nothing to do with browser tabs.

Creating and opening a tab

1. Open the task, the new task form, or the menu section you need.
2. Press the down arrow on the right of the header. If you are leaving a filled form with Back, choose Minimize to tab.
3. You end up on the previous screen, with a Tabs button and a counter in the lower-right corner.
4. Press it and pick the tab you want to go back to.

Whatever you worked on last sits at the top, so stepping back one screen is usually the quickest. Each row shows the title and when you were last there. A blue dot on a form means the text you typed has not reached your other devices yet.

Managing tabs

• New task opens another form, and the one you already started stays where it is.
• The cross closes a single tab, while Close all clears the tabs of the current workspace in one go.
• A closed tab takes nothing with it: the task stays where it was, and an unfinished form turns up in Drafts.
• A workspace holds 8 tabs at a time. Once they are all taken, you have to close one before you can minimize another screen.

After a restart or a workspace switch

Tabs stay on the device where you minimized them. You cannot use them to carry on from your phone what you left open at your computer, though the unfinished task will be waiting there in Drafts.

Move to another workspace and the tabs of the previous one go out of sight; come back and they are all where you left them.

Close the app and open it again, and you land on the main screen with your tabs still waiting behind the same button. The only ones that disappear are those you have not returned to for two weeks.

While an unfinished task sits in a tab, the text you typed is kept in a draft as well, so it survives even if you close the tab. Finding that draft and continuing from another device is covered in Task Drafts.
